A bunch of local arts organizations could be moved into a new home by the end of the year, maybe even sooner. On Tuesday, March 17, the Sacramento City Council approved $5 million to help turn an old building into The E. Claire Raley Studios for the Performing Arts. 

The city’s funds will help cover renovation costs of the former Fremont School for Adults building, located at 2420 N Street. Building operator Studios Operating Company will kick in an additional $1.6 million. Once the estimated seven-month renovation is complete, the space will house a number of arts groups. Currently, five organizations have filed letters of intent to lease 82 percent (38,201 square feet) of the building: the Sacramento Ballet, Capital Stage Company, Alliance Fancaise de Sacramento, Calidanza – Children’s Chorus, and the Brazilian Center for Cultural Exchange.

Meanwhile, the Sacramento Ballet recently launched its own eight-month, $250,000 fundraising campaign to help pay for tenant improvements for their future home. It’ll run through October 2015. People who donate $250 or more, will get an invitation to an open house party for the new venue.
