The Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera are back—for real this time. 

Yesterday, the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera (the two groups merged in 2013 into a joint organization self-described as “Two In Tune”) announced its 2015-16 “Resurrection Season.” Aptly, it kicks off June 27 with Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection.” The seven-concert season full of classics will run through May 7, 2016, and all of the shows will happen at the Community Center Theater. According to the announcement sent to SN&R yesterday, ticket prices have rolled back to 2003 levels, with subscription packages starting at $126 for the seven concerts. Last month, the organization also announced “Art Invasion 2015,” where musicians from the group would show up to perform in “museums, clubs and public spaces.” That kicked off earlier this month with a series of performances on May 5—the region’s Big Day of Giving fundraising day for non-profit organizations (in which the organization raised $53,750)—in places like Cesar Chavez Plaza and Hot Italian. It was one of the first public performances for the group in more than a year. The Opera and Philharmonic were both financially struggling before merging in 2013, but continued to have budget and administrative woes after that.

Art Invasion continued this past weekend on Mother’s Day with members of SacPhil getting together for a pop-up performance at the Midtown Farmer’s Market. Follow the group’s Facebook page for future announcements about Art Invasion shows as they come.
