Even as the rest of us tried to absorb the news of David Bowie’s untimely death due to cancer, some Sacramento fans stepped up to organize a few tributes.
Tomorrow night at On the Y (670 Fulton Avenue), local comedian Robert Berry will host a Bowie karoake tribute night. Would-be “Young Americans” belters are encouraged to share their favorite Ziggy Stardust stories and memories, too. More info here.
Tuesday, February 9, the Blue Lamp will host “Life on Mars,” an art show inspired by Bowie. According to the Facebook event description, 40 artists were randomly assigned a line to create from the Bowie song by the same name (found on the 1971 record Hunky Dory).
Participating artists include Sissie Marden, Mark Fox, Kip Bridges, Lauren Margaux, Skye Bergen, Victoria Augusto, Robin C Eagan, Heather Crocker, Wel Sed, Mike Hennessy, Ragain Blackard, , Luke Sanders, Kendra Concannon, Natalie Schneider, Bridgétt Rex, Alexandra Argh and Justina Martino
. The Second Saturday reception will start at 7 p.m. at the Blue Lamp (1400 Alhambra Boulevard). Doors open at 7:00. Learn more here. Heartbroken over Bowie’s death but excited to check this out–and to see what other ways people find to honor one of music’s most respected artists.
