Local doom band Chrch racks up huge praise on Best of 2015 lists

I’ve been yelling about Chrch for more than a year now, and now that we’re hitting year’s end, everybody else is, too. The local doom metal band sits high on at least five Best of 2015 lists for its debut album, Unanswered Hymns.

Noisey, Stereogum, CVLT Nation, Invisible Oranges and The Obelisk have all ranked Chrch among the best across multiple categories, from specific doom-only lists to the best of all metal released in 2015.

Somewhat disappointing that other local bands with stellar releases this year, including Battle Hag and Will Haven, have yet to show up on any of these lists, but so it goes.

Here are the rankings so far—don’t forget that the season is still far from over, so it wouldn’t surprise if Chrch landed on another writer’s list. Hit me up on Twitter if you see one that I’ve missed: @AnthonySiino.
