USA Rugby announced back in February that Sacramento’s Bonney Field will host a doubleheader of rugby games (Fiji versus Samoa, and United States versus Japan) on Friday, July 24. Earlier this week, they followed that up by announcing tickets will be on sale next Wednesday, April 22. They start at $20 and will be available at Ticketmaster.com at 10 a.m. The match is part of the World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup, which runs from July 18 through August 3 and features teams from Canada, Fiji, Japan, Samoa, Tonga and the United States.
Don’t know too much about rugby? It’s about time to get to know it a little. Check out this piece on Lou Stanfil and on how Sacramento (and all of Northern California) is a big producer of rugby talent.
It’s worth noting that this is a big year for USA Rugby. The USA Men’s Eagles Sevens team has won an impressive amount of games this year in the Sevens World Series and as a result, are close to qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics. On top of that, our regular 15-player rugby union team, the USA Men’s Eagles, will be participating in the Rugby World Cup 2015 in England, and is in a good position to upset a few teams.
