Sacramento B-boys headed to Red Bull BC One qualifier

B-Boy CNote
B-Boy Philthy

Sacramento’s produced a number of great B-boys over the years. A few years back, I wrote a cover story on B-Boy Morris after he’d won a ton of prestigious international battles and been featured in a few Hollywood films.

Next month, two up-and-coming local B-boys will participate in a cypher (basically a qualifying competition) for the Red Bull BC One finals, one of the dance’s most prestigious competitions, happening in Rome in November. Morris made the finals twice, in 2009 and 2011, but didn’t win the title either year.

The qualifying cypher is on May 8 in Hawaii, and the winner will go on to the U.S. National Finals in August in Orlando, Florida. Local B-boys CNote (Djuan Mitchell, of Brothers of War and FloorGangz) and Philthy (Philip Alibudbud) of Underground Flow both will head to Hawaii next month seeking to win the competition and get one step closer to competing in Rome in November.

Check out the Red Bull BC One website here, and below are a few videos showing off CNote and Philthy’s moves. To tie it all together, the video with CNote shows him against Morris last year in a competition in Roseville, and the video with Philthy shows him against Morris in 2013 in a Sacramento competition.
