If there’s going to be a live baby bunny in the Easter basket next to the jelly beans and chocolate this year, make sure that adorable ball of fur was not purchased at a pet store or from a breeder.
Bowie is available to be adopted from the Sacramento SPCA (6201 Florin-Perkins Road).
But are you prepared to keep this sweet little beast for 10 years, or are the kids going to be, like so over it after a few months, especially during the first year, which is their adolescence, when things get hairy? According to the Sacramento House Rabbit Society, “rabbits have probably 10 times the sexual drive and bad behavior of human teenagers which can’t be limited by training. At least you can alter your rabbit.”
Well played, SHRS.
And yes, rabbits can be trained.

Sprout is available to be adopted from Friends of Unwanted Rabbits: (916) 710 0105.
And if you’ve considered everything on SHRS’ Before You Adopt checklist (www.allearssac.org/consideration.html), then get your rodent-loving butt to Pet-a-Palooza on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rusch Park in Cirtrus Heights, where the nonprofit will have bunny education and animals for adoption. There’ll be live music, food trucks, product giveaways, and something called “dog frisbee splash contests.”

Wherever you choose to adopt (not buy) your new bunny from, educate yourself and be responsible and loving to your new family member—which also happens to be scientifically proven as the cutest animal in the world (or at least should be).
And then make hilarious videos of her so that she’ll be Internet famous.
