Downtown Sacramento definitely needs a post-pandemic jumpstart, now that fewer government employees work there. What can be done to bring more people back to work, live and play in that neighborhood?

On Wednesday, March 27, the Solving Sacramento journalism collaborative will host a public discussion about what’s lacking, what’s needed, and how Sacramentans can help Downtown with the comeback. The event will be moderated by Chris Nichols of Capital Public Radio, with some people who know Downtown Sacramento well — as residents, business owners, economic boosters and housing developers. Nichols is the homelessness and housing affordability reporter for Cap Radio.

Guest speakers include Ryan Cassidy, vice-president of real estate at Mutual Housing California; Scott Ford, economic development director of Downtown Sacramento Partnership; Heidi Rojek, co-owner of Capital Books; and Jay Sales, resident of Downtown Sacramento, former director of emerging technology at VSP Global, current vice president of development at BigBear.ai.

The event happens between 6:30 and 8 p.m. at Touchstone Brewing, next door to the Pipeworks climbing gym in Downtown Sacramento. Come buy a pint, get dinner from the Jeeroz food truck, and join the conversation. Admission is free and attendees can register here.

Touchstone Brewing is located at 116 N 16th St. Suite 100 in Sacramento.
