Police release mugshot of suspect in Kevin Johnson pie assault

Police have released the mugshot for Sean Thompson, the Sacramento man arrested last night for throwing a pie at Mayor Kevin Johnson.

Thompson, 32, was charged with felony assault on a public official after lobbing a pie at Johnson at a Farm-to-Fork event held Wednesday night at Sacramento High School.

According to witnesses, Thompson said something to Johnson after throwing the dessert; in return Johnson allegedly started punching Thompson.

A statement from the police department stated that Thompson that “during the assault, the subject sustained a minor injury and was transported by the Sacramento Fire Department to a local hospital for treatment.” Minor or not, the above photo shows injuries allegedly sustained during the incident, including what appear to be stitches beneath his left eye.

Thompson has been identified as a a former Sacramento City College student and Occupy Sacramento activist who, In a 2012 interview posted to YouTube by the community college’s newspaper, complained about Johnson’s role in evicting Occupy Sacramento protesters from a homeless encampment outside City Hall. 

Thompson, pictured above, was first arrested on the first night of Occupy Sacramento in 2011, at Cesar Chavez. The protests were meant to mimic those staged by Occupy Wall Street in Manhattan and, in total, 34 were arrested that night for refusing to follow police order and leave the park.
