Donut Madness opens with horror-themed treats

Sacramento’s current doughnut landscape doesn’t contain enough gore and kitsch for ya? Behold: Donut Madness is now open at 2648 Watt Avenue.

From one of the founders of the insanely popular Psycho Donuts in San Jose, Donut Madness draws inspiration from horror movies. There are movie posters plastered outside and famous villain masks on the walls. The display case is in the shape of a coffin.

Doughnuts start at $1.75 and take on silly concepts. Examples: Children of the Cornflake (raised topped with peanut butter, karo and cornflake cereal), S’mores Stalker (raised glazed with marshmallow cream, topped with graham cracker and chocolate) and Apricot Plot (apricot-laced fritter). We sampled these at SN&R and weren’t blown away with the quality—especially compared to local favorites Bakers Donuts and Sweet Dozenbut they succeed in fun factor.

Like Psycho Donuts, Donut Madness was expected to offer vegan doughnuts. None are on offer yet.
