Pizza Rock founder featured at Outside Lands

At last, Outside Lands has announced the lineup for its GastroMagic stage.

The special culinary-music-magic mash-up area debuted last year with great success, pairing up the likes of chefs cooking duck sauce alongside Duck Sauce spinning tracks. It was silly. It was brilliant.

There are some repeats, like a discussion with celebrity chef Chris Consentino and Big Freedia twerking while Brenda’s Soul Food fries beignets. Exciting new additions include Iron Chef Morimoto rolling sushi and performing karaoke. I saw a similar deal over at this year’s Bottle Rock Napa, with Morimoto teaching Snoop Dogg to roll sushi—and Morimoto let out some a capella then too. The man is talented on all fronts.

Perhaps most exciting for us Sacramentans making the drive down to San Francisco’s festival, which takes place Friday, Aug. 7 through Sunday, Aug. 9 in Golden Gate Park, will be the Sacramento connection: Pizza Rock founder Tony Gemignani will spin dough and dish out pizza bites while DJ MoPo spins his electronic funk. That goes down from 2:30 to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

OK, you’re probably more excited to see Kendrick Lamar than chef Tony G. Whatever. For the rest of the GastroMagic schedule, click here.
