First Festival morphs into ticketed event

A couple First Festival updates for you.

First, the full lineup has been announced for the brand-new music, art and fashion festival happening on Saturday, May 23 at River Walk Park in West Sacramento. The latest additions are rapper Dylan Phillip and industrial rock band Snow White Smile, and the headlining slot belongs to indie rockers Humble Wolf.

Second, organizers Danielle Vincent and Ashley Rastad announced yesterday that First Festival will no longer be a free festival, contrary to what the above flyer says. Instead, general admission tickets are going for $15 in advance and $20 at the gate. VIP tickets have been lowered from $50 to $35, and include locally handmade fashions, access to a VIP lounge and beer garden and other swag. The first 100 people to buy general admission tickets will get upgraded to VIP for free.

In a press release, organizers stated that they lost a major sponsorship and have met an “underwhelming response” from local businesses. Being a first-time festival, they don’t have much evidence to persuade potential sponsors.

“We will not end up in a situation where we have outstanding debts with companies in a manner that we cannot handle by personal guarantee especially in light of TBD festival having left an intensely high volume of unpaid bills after their festival,” Vincent wrote by email.

Vincent said that attracting approximately 1,500 attendees will ensure that all costs will be covered.

“We hope that the community will rally behind us and not against us in light of our transparency and being so upfront,” she said.
