These guys will find the beer in Sacramento so you don't have to

I noticed @BeersInSac a few weeks back on Twitter. It described what they do as a “search engine for beers on tap in Sacramento!” With a website, www.beersinsac.com, where brew enthusiasts will be able to search to see if their favorite beer is on draft anywhere in the 916.

The site will launch on the first day of Sacramento Beer Week—there’s a countdown and everything. I emailed Beers In Sac’s Ted Rozalski (Sacto native and co-founder with Scott Scoville) to see what’s up:

SN&R: Tell me how you came up with this?

Ted: BeersInSac.com came about when one night I was looking for a Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA on tap, but didn’t know where I could find it. I knew I wasn’t the only one with this dilemma, so I decided to create a service that I would want to use a consumer. BeersInSac.com is a search engine for craft beers on tap in Sacramento. For the first time, a beer drinker can navigate the city by searching a specific bar or brew to locate his or her favorite beers on tap via our website and future smartphone app. To make it all happen, we are partnering with the businesses of Sacramento, small and large, to add a layer to the craft beer on tap experience.

How’d you get into beer?

I was introduced to the craft brew scene at my buddy’s summer barbeque when he had a blind tasting featuring a variety of beers purchased from local markets. It opened my eyes to the wide range of styles and tastes, which then spawned my curiosity for home brewing. Despite our lack of success in creating an original and drinkable beer, I became passionate about trying new and interesting craft brews. As my pallet expanded, I learned more about the unique community of craft beer enthusiasts that resides in Sacramento

So, the site’s really going to work like: Say, I want a Prairie beer, I can use BiS to search to see if anyone has bottles or on draft? How will you keep it up to date?

Our partnerships with various bars and restaurants are simple. Either the establishment will notify us via email or text message regarding the beers on tap (no bottles), or we will call daily to ensure the most updated and current list is provided to the end user. Our goal is to be reliable service to the beer lovers of Sacramento.

What’s you fav beer lately?

Lately, I’ve been getting into American Porters such as Deschutes Black Butte, Ballast Point Victory at Sea, and Ruhsthaller The Sauce. I am still an IPA guy at heart and prefer the local ones at that.

Beer In Sac will celebrate with a launch party on the first day of Sacramento Beer Week, Thursday, February 27, at New Helvetia Brewing, from 6 to 10 p.m.
