Tahoe Park’s Public House Theater has been a friendly, neighborhood spot showing second-run movies in a cozy room with beer and wine for almost a year. Think recliners, a stout and The Breakfast Club on a 12-foot screen. 

In fact, the theater intended to celebrate its one-year anniversary tomorrow with live music and a food truck in tow. But earlier today, someone anonymously tipped the City of Sacramento’s Building Department that Public House was operating illegally, according to co-owner Norma Ward.

Ward said she had been trying to get the appropriate licenses for the past year, but “it’s been a process.” Now those efforts will be in full force with some enlisted help, and Ward hopes to open the theater back up soon. For now, the pub part of the venue is still open from 3 to 10 p.m. daily at 5440 14th Avenue. Follow the theater’s permitting progress—Ward said they’re also trying to get permits to serve hot food—on Facebook.
