Chris Robinson Brotherhood greet Sacramento with 'farm to table' rock

By Paul Piazza

On a rainy Tuesday night, the Chris Robinson Brotherhood parked their big tour bus on J Street and took Harlow’s by storm.

Well…not exactly by storm, but in true jam-band fashion, the trippy, soulful and extremely tight-playing group eased in with a mellow-ish first set, before thundering through an alternately rocking and grooving second set.

A solid early in-the-week crowd packed the club and responded to the soulful singing of vocalist Robinson and the amazing players in his band (Neal Casal on guitar/vocals, Adam Macdougall on keyboards/vocals, George Sluppick on drums, Mark Dutton on bass) with booty-shaking enthusiasm, especially when they busted out the Grateful Dead’s “West L.A. Fadeaway.”

There were many, many more highlights during the band’s two sets, and it’s safe to say at the end of the night, that the band’s earthy roots truly demonstrated their self-proclaimed “farm to table psychedelic rock” sound.
