‘Tis the season to party rock for men’s-health awareness.
Once reserved for tank-top-rocking, Tucker Max-reading young men who refuse to stop listening to Sublime, the term “bro” is experiencing something of an ironic renaissance, and this month, Midtown is all over it like dudes on a CrossFit circuit. Whether it’s subconsciously an attempt to exorcise any bro-like behavior Sacramentans might pick up simply from their proximity to Broseville or more of cultural-appropriation type thing a la mom jeans, Brovember and Movember events aim to raise awareness around men’s health issues, which is pretty chill, if you ask us.
For the fitness-oriented, the Sacramento Moustache Run comprises a moustache-shaped 5K at the River Walk Park (651 2nd Street in West Sacramento) on Saturday, November 8 at 11 a.m. Deejays will be spinning tunes while faux-stached and moustached participants get chased by old-timey barbers. Afterward, the Mo For Your Bro After Party boasts cornhole (but of course!), giant Jenga, food trucks, local brews, and tunes from Century Got Bars, DJ Shaun Slaughter and other local acts. Tickets for the 5K, which include after-party admission, are $45-$50; tickets to the after party only are $5-$10. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society and the Active 20-30 Club of Great Sacramento #1032; more information can be found at www.sacramentomoustacherun.com.
Artsier dudebros can head to the Crocker Art Museum (216 O Street) on Thursday, November 13 at 5 p.m. for ArtMix: BroVember, wherein the Denim Spot will be providing wardrobe tips, Anthony’s Barber Shop will be doing barber demos and manly artists will be giving five-minute talks. The Nickel Slots and DJ Billy Lane will provide the tunes and drink specials will be offered all night. Admission is free for members, and $8-$10 for non-members.
