This is what a car crash looks like.

Deadly vehicle accidents and skirmishes with security guards closed out last month and greeted the new one in the city of Sacramento.

During a three-day period ending February 2, the Sacramento Police Department reported five traffic accidents—two of them fatal—and three violent confrontations between security guards and the public.

Two parked patrol vehicles were also hit during this time, one by a passing motorist while attending the scene of a roll-over accident near Watt Avenue and La Riviera Drive Monday night. A night earlier, it was a light rail train that struck a patrol unit as it turned north onto 12th Street from K Street. Police logs say the cruiser was parked for traffic control when it sustained minor damage to the bumper.

Three people died in separate car crashes on Friday and Saturday afternoons. The former occurred on Howe Avenue, where a vehicle reportedly smashed into a tree in the center divider just south of American River Drive, ejecting its two occupants, both of who died from their injuries. Logs say the car burst into flames and that traffic had to be diverted until detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit completed their evaluation of the scene.

The weekend was notable for security guards as well. One dodged the swipes of a box-cutter and tazed the man holding it in the parking lot of a Mack Road apartment complex on Saturday night, while his fellow non-sworn peacekeepers scrapped with juvenile shoplifters and an 18-year-old attacker in separate incidents Saturday and Friday.
