Firefighters responded to calls of a brush fire this morning in the field below the Arden Garden Connector. The north Sacramento battalion chief on duty said that there were no injuries or witnesses, and that the small fire was quickly contained.
There’s no confirmation on the cause of the fire, though the chief told SN&R that it probably originated inadvertently at one of the homeless camps off the small American River tributary located on the western end of the field.
Sacramento has endured a particuarly dry year, leaving foliage golden and brittle–perfect for fostering a blaze once it has started. According to the batallion chief, someone driving down the Arden Garden Connector could flick a cigarette out their car window and create a similar fire in that field.
It’s just that dry, and the wind isn’t helping either.
