For many attendees, Day 2 of Aftershock was the day the festival really came alive. Hotter temps, heavier riffs and many raw moments made the prior day feel like a warm-up. The morning kicked off with typical NorCal fall light, but it wasn’t long before summer-like heat blanketed the grounds. Fans sought out shade, portable fans and water breaks. But the heat couldn’t kill the enthusiasm as the festival’s lineup kicked into overdrive. Turnstile brought their kinetic energy with a set that was tight, fast and unpredictable. Lamb of God delivered a pulverizing set and unveiled their new single “Sepsis” live for the first time. A Perfect Circle and singer Maynard Keenan delivered a haunting, moody interlude in between all the chaos. Slayer’s Kerry King performed his new solo project. Bruce Dickinson was one of the high points of the day, drawing on history and new ambition. Local band The Deftones brought the evening to a close.
