Missed out on the Art Hotel? It’s getting a second life, Second Life style.
By now you are probably well aware that Art Hotel was a raging success. Organizers estimate people visited it more than 12,000 times over ten days. Waits for tickets lasted hours, and often, tickets sold out in less time.
Little did we know that the Art Hotel team was already working on preserving the experience. And no, we’re not just talking about the coffee table book. Local firm Dreyfuss + Blackford Architecture (D+B) had been sneaking into the Art Hotel every morning, laser scanning the place. On Friday, February 19, the Art Hotel virtual edition goes live at www.virtualarthotel.com.
What will that look like? The online tour will apparently let you “walk-through” the Art Hotel in 3D and full color. But, because ephemeral art and stuff, the virtual hotel won’t live on forever. It’ll disappear when the Jade, the physical home of the Art Hotel, gets demolished this spring.
