This February, musical lovers can make the short trek to Nevada City and take a trip back to the 1960s with “Beehive” at off Broad Street.

The show features regional vocalists Tina Marie Kelley, Emily Fitzpatrick, Artemis Arthur, Dakota Lynch, Lindsay Grimes and Hannah Wellman all joining forces for a night of retro harmonies. Celebrating the powerful female singers of the 1960s, this production draws from the era’s timeless hits by Aretha Franklin, The Ronettes, Janis Joplin, The Supremes and more. Told from the perspective of six young women who come of age in this enigmatic decade, the story takes viewers from their first Beehive Dance to the challenges that a generation faced with their nation.

Billed as the ultimate celebration of 1960s female empowerment, “Beehive” nostalgically recalls the days of miniskirts, radio idols and the experience of growing up in a decade that transformed America forever.

“Beehive” is directed by Carey McCray and created by Larry Gallagher. It plays at Off Broad Street in Nevada City’s historic quarter every Friday and Saturday night in February at 7:15 p.m., with Sunday matinees showing on Feb. 16 and 23 at 2 p.m. The production’s final performances will be March 1, 7 and 8.

For 37 years, Off Broad Street has been an immersive theatre in western Nevada County. Tickets for “Beehive” are $38 and can be purchased here. Wine, beer, pies and desserts will be available for purchase at the venue on show nights. Off Broad Street is located at 305 Commercial Street in Nevada City.
