ENLIGHTENMENT: Discussion on Oct.10 about what (if anything) can be done to save downtown Sacramento?

Empty office buildings. Struggling restaurants. Unaffordable rents. Challenges with homelessness. A general concern across the region about whether it’s even safe to be there. Downtown Sacramento has been facing hard times. And yet it remains the heartbeat of the capital for largest state in the union and the 5th largest economy in the world. Does it really have to be this way?

On Oct. 10th at 6 p.m. ENLIGHTENMENT will host a salon-type discussion about the future of Downtown – held in Downtown at Ruhstaller BSMT.

The evening, which will be conducted in a speakeasy-type environment, is meant for informal but meaningful discussions on the topic. The night’s guests on the sofa will be Scott Ford from Downtown Sac Partnership, Councilmember-elect for District 4 Phil Pluckebaum and Heidi Rojek from Capital Books.

Topics discussed will include the new “Save Downtown” report, changing political strategies and a specail fundraising campaign to buy Crest Theater and keep it in local hands. Ruhstaller BSMT has a variety of beers on tap, as well as kombucha, wine and sparkling water. Light snacks will be available, but please feel free to BYO food.

ENLIGHTENMENT is a European salon-style event that holds informal cocktail conversations in Ruhstaller’s basement taproom. Its get-togethers highlight local personalities involved in interesting endeavors, along with experts knowledgeable about local, state, national or global issues. The idea is to bring the community together for dialogs over drinks in a relaxing environment. Ruhstaller’s BSMT is located 726 K Street in Downtown Sacramento.
