Concerts in the Park returns! The Downtown Sacramento Partnership announced the lineup for its free summer concert series Thursday morning over live music and street pub grub at the show’s longstanding venue, Cesar Chavez Plaza on 9th and J streets.

This year’s lineup brings some global touring acts, including post-punks Franz Ferdinand (May 18) and electronic duo The Crystal Method (July 27). Post-hardcore pioneers Dance Gavin Dance (June 22), Middle Class Rut (July 20) and the recently viral Hobo John & the Lovemakers (July 13) top the list of heavyweight Sacramento artists. Jazz, eletronic dance music, hard rock, hip-hop and soul make for a pretty diverse selection of sounds throughout the summer.

Last year brought in around 76,000 people, said Jordyn Anderson, a spokeswoman with the partnership.  2017 also billed some bigger names, including Del the Funky Homosapien.

“It’s truly a testament to the growth we’ve experienced onstage and off,” Anderson said. “That comes from the energy and excitement surrounding the Golden 1 Center, a new era spotlighting downtown.”

The series runs from May 4 through July 27. Expect to see a park packed every Friday (minus July 6) starting at 5 p.m., with food trucks, mobile boutiques, live art exhibits, beer and life-sized bubble wands.
