Kru opens for dinner service

Kru just announced it would open for dinner tonight at 5:30 p.m. at its new location, 3135 Folsom Boulevard.

For the past couple of weeks, the beloved Japanese restaurant had been on soft opening-mode, generating buzz for its gorgeous interior designed by Whitney Johnson (Shady Lady Saloon, Bottle & Barlow) and bar stocked with rare Japanese whiskeys.

The dinner menu online looks about the same—more stripped-down, if anything. You’ll still find your favorites, like the Sunshine roll, sashimi tapas and pork belly. A few dishes, like the beef tongue and beef tataki, appear to be gone. Ramen options were notably expanded—you can choose from a selection of broths and proteins for $13.

Chef Billy Ngo opened the restaurant with the team behind Hook & Ladder Manufacturing Co. with the bar in mind. In addition to premium sake and whiskey, there’s a selection of food-friendly craft cocktails utilizing ingredients such as chamomile honey, ginger and spiced coconut cream.

Lunch service is still to come. Make dinner reservations here.
