No dad rock here: Jon Spencer Blues Explosion book last-minute show

Fans of dirty, kinda nuts ‘90s-era rock won’t want to miss this last-minute show just booked yesterday.

On Thursday, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion booked a gig at Harlow’s Restaurant & Nightclub.

I mean, really, what better way to spend Mother’s Day night than with the legendary perpetrators of so-called “scuzz rock”?

Back in the day this trio, featuring former Pussy Galore member Jon Spencer, was lionized for its crazy, energetic post-modern rock shows.

And even though the band’s hey day was, arguably, 20 years ago, this is definitely not dad rock. It’s not your daddy’s blues at all, that’s for sure.

Anyway, this isn’t the first time they’ve decided last-second to play a Sac gig. According to Abstract Entertainment promoter Brian McKenna, the band pretty much did the exact thing 21 years ago for a drop-in show at the Cattle Club.

So to recap, the show happens Sunday, May 10 at Harlow’s (2708 J Street). Tickets are $15 and doors open at 7 p.m. with an 8 p.m. start time. Brubaker, featuring members of Kai Kln, Victims Family, Jello Biafra and Bluchunks, are also on the bill.
