Rainbow LGBT crosswalks at K and 20th streets in Midtown to be approved next week

Sacramento city council poised to greenlight new rainbow crosswalks for K and 20th streets next week.

The LGBT-friendly design is to commemorate the importance of the Lavender Heights community in Midtown.

The Sacramento Rainbow Chamber of Commerce will pay for the crosswalk, which will cost an estimated $35,000. The Midtown Business Association will pay for the installation pay for the upkeep of the crosswalks, which will be made of “thermoplastic.”

A little bit of history from the staff report: “The district received its informal designation as Lavender Heights in the late 1980’s when the Lambda Community Center, now known as the Sacramento LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) Community Center opened in the area.
