A revamped Midtown Farmers Market debuts tomorrow. So far, most of the media hoopla has been about a better strolling layout, kids zone, patio and vibe that just makes you want to hang out all day. Same location at 20th between J and K Streets.
Unseen Heroes—the team behind cool community concepts such as GOOD design + street market on Del Paso Boulevard, Gather in Oak Park and the Display revolving pop-up store—took the management reins from BeSmartMoneyUSA, which runs eight markets in the region. But what about the produce? The vendors? The real reason for returning every week? Most importantly, will there be eggs again?!
Yes, Vega Farms is on the list of confirmed vendors for Farmers Market 2.0. There are a whole bunch of returners, actually: Soil Born Farms, Dragon Gourmet Mushrooms, Freshway Fish, Volkswaffle, Petaluma Creamery, Crazy Gringo Taco Wagon Salsa, Pasta Queen, Metro Juice, Upper Crust Bakery and even those fancy dog biscuit people. In other words, market regulars will be able to keep buying products from their favorite farms and definitely discover some new stuff.
All in all, there are 13 farms (six certified organic), seven crafters, 11 prepared food vendors and two specialty stands. Beloved doughnut shop Sweet Dozen will be present too, for a second sweet dough option.
Also on the agenda: Vinny Lazzaretto, sous chef at Hook & Ladder Manufacturing Co. will demonstrate how to make fresh pasta. If you’ve had Hook’s pasta, you are automatically excited.
