The 2014 lineup for San Francisco’s biggest musical festival has finally arrived: Kanye West, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and The Killers will headline Outside Lands this August.
Weird and totally underwhelming, right? Before you write it off, check out the long list of 80 bands scheduled to play. As a whole, it’s still pretty impressive—and varied.
There are rock stars, popsters, rappers, indie bands, country singers, 11-piece collectives, international beat-makers, experimental artists, folky singer-songwriters and funky brass bands. Metalheads and punk rockers aren’t going to find much—but were they really ever going to consider Outside Lands anyway?
Away from the headliners, big names include Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Arctic Monkeys, Tiesto, Death Cab for Cutie, The Flaming Lips and Spoon. And while there don’t appear to be any Sacramento heroes on the list yet, there are a bunch of bands that have recently played—or are scheduled to soon play—in our fair city: Tycho, Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers, Typhoon, Bear Hands, Finish Ticket and Night Terrors of 1927.
Advanced tickets go on sale Thursday—$255 for all three days, August 8-10. No word yet on whether there will be single day tickets. And no word on the always-epic culinary lineup either.
In the meantime, here are a few tunes to get you in the Outside Lands mood:
