Overzealous Sacramento beer nerds won’t be surprised to learn that Russian River Brewing Company announced today it’s stupid-popular triple IPA Pliny the Younger will return to Sacramento next month.
The brewery, which revealed its Younger plans this morning on its blog, recently underwent a makeover in preperation for the legion of fools beer enthusiasts who line up for hours for PtY drafts each February.
Younger, ranked No. 2 on the top 250 beers by certain brew websites, is a dry, pine-y IPA with a nice grapefruit and citrus profile that masks its 10 percent-plus booze punch. Quite drinkable.
In the past, it’s been easy enough to sample the Younger in Sacramento—if you don’t mind waiting in lines for a couple hours at spots such as Burgers & Brew, Streets of London, Pour House, etc. This region typically receives a dozen five-gallon Younger kegs, and they probably will arrive during beer week, whose website has yet to be updated for 2014.
Feel special, Sacramento: The Younger only comes to California, Colorado, Oregon, and Philadelphia. (Don’t fuck it up!)
If you’re not into the Disneyland beer charade, Berryessa Brewing Co. Separation Anxiety single-hop is a more than worthy substitute (and you can procure it year-round).
And now, a picture of my dog drinking Younger. Suckers.
