Mother is the forthcoming veggie-friendly restaurant by chef Michael Thiemann (of Ella Dining Room & Bar and Tyler Florence sidekick fame). It will open soon on K Street at the old Blimpie’s spot near the Crest.

Halloween is an annual holiday where people don costumes (some amazing, some shockingly idiotic).

The two will collide this Thursday at The Golden Bear’s annual (and awesome) Halloween party. Thiemann and the Mother team will take over the G-Bear kitchen for the night, serving up all-you-can nibble vegetarian fare for $10 (get tickets here now).

I visited the crew at one of the Mother pop-ups at Old Ironsides last week.

Think coffee and molasses grits with poached egg and mushrooms, and black-eyed-pea Colorado fingerling fries with cotija and peppers. Or just a really solid fried oyster mushroom po’ boy sandwich. (I’m no food critic, so I’ll leave the breakdown to Bee scribe Blair Anthony Roberston.)
