I’m dying, here. There’s just too much hype and not enough actual soccer taking place in this town, and I can barely contain myself.
Thankfully, those of us staying in Sacramento this Memorial Day weekend can look forward for once to some real, live football action.
After watching Dortmund take on Bayern in the Champions League Final at Alley Katz tomorrow afternoon, soccer enthusiasts can go down to Sheldon High School in Elk Grove and watch local coaches take on the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department in the First Annual Cops vs. Coaches Cup.
Okay. Yeah. Really not sure what level of play to expect here, but it’s live soccer–and it’s for a good cause.
Proceeds from the event are set to go to the SCDSA Scholarship Fund and the Elk Grove Youth Soccer League Scholarship Program. There’s also talk of some proceeds going to Oklahoma tornado relief funds.
Adults can get their tickets for $10 online, or $15 at the gate. Children 17 and under get in for five dollars (free if they’re wearing soccer jerseys). They will be selling raffle tickets, and the concession stand will be open. What more do you want on a Memorial Day weekend Saturday evening?
A youth exhibition game will kick things off at 6:00 p.m. The main event is slated for 7:00. See you there.
