High School Musical fans have been waiting decades to groove their way back to the top; and on Friday, June 23^rd, the “Bop to the Top” night may deliver all that nostalgia to Ace of Spades. Though it’s been a while since the franchise released its last film, its most loyal devotees in Sacramento can use the evening to reunite for a club-like experience around their shared passion.

DJ Jeffery, Lucas Grabee and Life by Micheal are to host the event and will play all the greatest hits from the three films.

“What makes Bop to the Top so special is that the audience is the main character of the night,” DJ Michael Weber – or Life by Michael – said. “We bring audience members on stage for dances, focus on crowd participation, and love to include surprises.”

For many fans, High School Musical was more than just a Disney Channel movie. To the younger viewers, it was an escape and dream for what the future of high school could be like.

“It’s one of the best things I remember from my childhood,” 20-year-old Alexis Magana said. “It was always so entertaining to me because of the drama between the characters, and the songs were just so catchy.”

This event will play on all the beats of the films as actor Lucas Grabeel, who portrays Ryan in them, will also be hosting the event.

“I love Ryan Evans! I think in all the movies he doesn’t get a lot of credit for how much he has grown,” noted 18-year-old fan Peyton Stoller. “For instance, when he joins the wildcats to compete against Sharpay in the talent show… he went against his twin!”

Instagram posts under the tag #boptothetop reveal that the event will also have its own photo station set-up with a red backdrop and white balloons – the evening’s title brightly cascading over fans’ heads.

The event will also allow fans an opportunity to pose as their favorite characters.

“My favorite character is Troy Bolton,” 19-year-old fan Haylee Dickson observed. “High School Musical reminds me of my childhood, because every last day of school my family watches High School Musical 2.”

The night’s DJs will be projecting videos of the songs, along with a light show.

“We wanted to create a space where fans of High School Musical & Disney Channel could come together and celebrate the music they grew up on in a safe and fun environment,” Weber explained.

According to posters, fans can expect to hear Disney Channel hits from Hannah Montana, Selena Gomez, Camp Rock and more.

Some hoping to attend say that High School Musical continues to have an impact on them.

“I had a quinceañera when I turned 15, and I got to dance my first waltz to ‘Can I have this Dance’ with my entire court in a huge ballroom,” Magana reminisced. “I still remember every detail about it to this day and it’s so special to me.”

“Bob to the Top” starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets at $39. Ace of Spades is located at 1417 R Street in Sacramento.
