Unlike other major coffee players in town, Old Soul Co. has been putting more and more effort into its food program.
With that in mind, Old Soul at the Weatherstone (812 21st Street) announced today that it will ban smoking at that particular cafe starting May 1. The Weatherstone boasts a lovely, idyllic patio, where hip patrons often chain smoke with their black coffee and Russian literature. Apparently, other patrons have been complaining about it for years.
“We agree with our customers who feel that our food experience would be better in a smoke-free environment; after 7 years of deliberation, it’s time to make the change,” management stated in a printed notice.
The Weatherstone also unveiled a new food menu last week. It’s still broken up into breakfast, sandwiches, salads and small plates, but there are more options in each.
Some enticing new offerings: pretzel, lox and cream cheese for breakfast ($9); pork loin sandwich with brie, apples and rosemary aioli on focaccia ($10); skirt steak sandwich with horseradish sauce on ciabatta ($12); and charcuterie plate ($11). Gone are the veggie or vegan, chipotle chicken, tuna melt and salami sandwiches; street tacos; pizza sticks; artichoke dip; veggie quesadilla; and some other stuff.
Happy smokeless eating!
