Traditionally a jazz and dixieland affair, the four-day Sacramento Music Festival continues to play with its identity. The 2015 headliners include old school R&B band Tower of Power, country singer Gloriana and two ‘90s rock bands, Everclear and Eve 6. More than 300 sets will be performed in various Old Sacramento venues throughout Memorial Day Weekend (May 22-25).

For reference, last year’s headliners were Collective Soul, singer-songwriter Matt Kearney and Trombone Shorty & New Orleans Avenue.

The continued prevalence of ‘90s alt-rock bands still feels a little weird—do people still care? Everclear had a few successful albums in the early ‘90s, while Eve 6 is pretty much just known for its hits “Inside Out” and “Here’s to the Night.” There’s also folk singer-songwriter Shawn Mullins, who won a Grammy for his 1998 single “Lullaby.” And Latin-rock ensemble Malo.

Just because there’s no jazz headliner doesn’t mean the festival has abandoned its roots entirely. There’s local vocal jazz trio Sister Swing, for example, and local hot swing band Crescent Katz. And intriguingly, a dixie band out of Poland. More artists will be added to the lineup in weeks to come, so we’ll see if the festival spends significant money on a big jazz or swing act.

In addition to local acts—Nickel Slots, Mercy Me, Joy and Madness, Kyle Rowland Blues Band, Spangler—expect quite a few popular returners as well, including Mumbo Gumbo, Wonderbread 5 and Tom Rigney and Flambeau.

Super early bird passes have sold out, but there are still thousands of discounted tickets: $110 full weekend passes for adults and $55 for kids; $39 for Friday; and $45 for Saturday or Sunday.
