Beat the newsies at trivia while supporting local journalism in Sacramento on Nov. 13

Put your knowledge of the news to the ultimate test at the next ENLIGHTENMENT Trivia Night on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m.. The event lets local trivia teams compete against each other, as well as try to dunk on a number of the ‘infamous scribblers’ and ‘ink-stained wretches’ who work in Sacramento’s media landscape (some will be on competing teams). Proceeds from the action will support Solving Sacramento’s efforts to keep local journalism alive.

The ENLIGHTENMENT Trivia Night series involves playing a thematic game at each competition, and always doing that for a great local cause. In November, the event will be held at the Sierra 2 Center for the Arts and Community at 2791 24th Street in Curtis Park. Its trivia theme is “Current Events and Yesterday’s News.” How closely do you follow breaking news? How well do you know what’s going on around you? Start tuning into some sources for local, national and worldwide news as the upcoming trivia show-down approaches.

The winners get to claim the Biggest Brain prize – and hold it over the heads of any local reporters they trounced in the process.

The charitable cause you’ll be supporting is Solving Sacramento, a journalism collaborative that produces local news and solutions-focused coverage for Sacramento residents. (California Groundbreakers is a member of this collaborative.) At a time when local journalism is shrinking, Solving Sacramento exists to raise the resources and support that keeps independent coverage alive and sustainable for the Sacramento region. Founded in early 2022, the organization focuses on covering critical issues such as affordable housing/homelessness, economic equity, arts and culture, and the environment. In addition to handling vital news coverage, Solving Sacramento has also produced more than 215 arts stories about our area, and hired more than 40 freelance writers and photographers here to do it, including many college journalism students. Buy a Trivia Night ticket and all proceeds go to support Solving Sacramento’s mission to fund journalists who cover life and culture in a meaningful way for our region. And of course, you can donate directly by going to their website.

Great prizes will go to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners on Nov. 13.

Teams of up to 6 people can play. And don’t worry about coming solo — ENLIGHTENMENT will pair you with other people to make up a great team.

Beverages and appetizers will also be on-hand. Please feel free to BYO food and nonalcoholic beverages.

Tickets are available here.
