The Wallflowers to headline free Farm-to-Fork Festival

It’s not all about ripe tomatoes and grass-fed beef at the annual Farm-to-Fork Festival on Capitol Mall. The family-friendly affair also delivers a full day of free live music.

The Wallflowers will headline the Saturday, September 24 festival. Jakob Dylan, the son of Bob Dylan, leads the Grammy Award-winning rock band, which formed in 1989. Though the group was most active in the ‘90s—you might remember the hit, “6th Avenue Heartache”—and took a lengthy hiatus, Jakob and the crew emerged with a new record in 2012. They’ve been actively touring with their rootsy, Americana-tinged sound ever since.

The Wallflowers are scheduled to go on around 4 p.m. with a 75-minute set. Opening the festival at 11 a.m. will be Skyler’s Pool, the local rock band featuring Kitty O’Neal and Kurt Spataro, the longtime executive chef of the Paragary Restaurant Group. The J Band, the surfy rock group who played Concerts in the Park earlier this summer, will follow. According to Mike Testa of the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau, a fourth act is still in the works.
