Sacramento comedy scene has a banner week

For starters, we’ve got popular stand-up comedian Tig Notaro (pictured) performing on Monday, November 17 (click here for more info on that) and satirist David Sedaris returns to perform at the Mondavi Center on Sunday, November 16 (that one’s already sold out, sorry).

But Sactown’s comedy scene is well represented in a variety of events this week, too. The Sacramento Comedy Spot Awards happen Friday, November 14 at 8 p.m., to celebrate the best in Sacramento Comedy Spot (1050 20th Street, Suite 150) happenings over the past year. The following day at the Comedy Spot (10:30 p.m., Saturday, November 15) Sacramento comedian Johnny Taylor will perform a CD release show with Keith Lowell Jensen, Daniel Humbarger, Jaime Fernandez, Jon Gomora and more. His album, Tangled Up in Plaid, debuted at no. 7 on the iTunes comedy charts. Both Comedy Spot events cost $8.

Elsewhere, ComedySportz Sacramento's relatively new space-TV-based improv show Cosmic Conquest goes down at 10 p.m. on Saturday, November 15. It riffs on shows like Star Trek and Firefly. ComedySportz is located at 2230 Arden Way, Suite B; and admission to the show is $4-$8.

Lastly, there’s another touring comedy show that’s worth a mention (some of the performers are from the Bay Area, but others are from all over the United States and Canada): The Filipino Comedy Tour ($25; 9 p.m. on Friday, November 14). Featuring comedy by Ron Josol, Joey Guila, Justin Rivera and beats by DJ R1ckone, it’ll be held at The Tower Theatre, 421 Vernon Street in Roseville.
