A note on Kings nostalgia

In what felt like a throwback from a different era, the Sacramento Kings beat the Los Angeles Lakers last night. And despite both the Kings and the Lakers having already been eliminated from the playoffs, it feels good that at least the Kings have a better record than their Southern California rivals.

Plus, in a Throwback Thursday video released today, the NBA highlighted Jason “White Chocolate” Williams’ top 10 career plays. Check it out here:

This video comes just a few months after a well-written but self-indulgent article published on indie sports website The Classical comparing J-Will to a fine artist on the basketball court. Seriously, it’s true; that’s exactly what he was. But the game’s evolved since then. We’re now in the era of a scorer’s game, not a passer’s.

For those wondering, J-Will was still dropping dimes in China last year. Meanwhile, ex-teammate and former King Chris Webber now is a sports analyst and starring in new March Madness advertisements for Burger King.

Sigh, all this basketball nostalgia almost makes me want to drive over to my parents’ house, dig into my closet and rock my throwback White Chocolate jersey this summer. Almost.
