Local bands compete to play SXSW in Austin

Radio 94.7 is sending one Sacramento band to the famed South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas.

The five finalists are Arden Park Roots, Life In 24 Frames, The Bell Boys, Cemetery Sun and Island of Black and White. Fans can listen to selected tracks and vote for their favorite bands through March 5, though, fan votes don’t actually determine the winner. The radio station’s own panel of judges will make that decision, though the volume of votes will certainly be taken into consideration. The announcement comes live, on-air sometime March 7.

From there, it’s a whirlwind. The selected band will be asked to play a special show at Assembly Music Hall on March 9, and then make its way to Austin by March 13 for a 30 minute set alongside American Idol-winner Kris Allen, New York indie popsters Lucius, Nashville indie band Wild Cub and England folk group Bear’s Den.
