More chain restaurants coming downtown as Claim Jumper arrives, McCormick & Schmick's closes

Whether it’s the proposed Kings arena or a “rebounding economy,” more and more chain restaurants and businesses are coming to Sacramento’s central city grid.

And, in this case as well, even more restaurants are shuttering.

The latest? Claim Jumper, the popular gut-stuffer chain, is in at J and 11th streets and McCormick and Schmick’s, the seafood joint, is out.

This afternoon, Claim Jumper announced it would be opening this winter downtown, at 1111 J Street. This is the same location in the Elk’s Tower that houses chain McCormick & Schmick’s, which will be closing on October 7.

Claim Jumper is based out of Irvine, Calif., where I attended undergrad, and was a popular spot with my roommates. Something about artichoke dip and ribs, if I recall (I never actually ate there, so I can’t affirm the virtues of the Claim’s stuffed barbecue shrimp embrochette).

Claim Jumper’s press release say it’s “known for their wide selection of fresh options.” Like this, perhaps:
