Want to cornhole some strangers in public?

I’m not convinced that this whole ‘cornhole’ nomenclature for that backyard sack-tossing pasttime isn’t just one big joke on the American people. But at the end of the day, it’s probably better than what my friends back in the midwest used to call it: testicle toss.

Whatver you want to call it, be sure that you’re going to see much more beanbag tossing as the nights grow longer and the weekends drunker.

Tonight, for example, you can go on down to 1730 Broadway and compete in a free cornhole tournament at New Helvetia Brewing company. The open competition is being put on by Radii 150, a local social sports club.

I’ve been to New Helvetia twice, and it’s quite the intimate environment. My first visit included a long conversation with a lanky and enjoyably awkward brewer, who walked me through the location’s brew sampler. The second trip, I ended up on a drunken tour with the owner and his friends one Friday night among the vats.

Fun times.
