Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Jerry Martini, aka Papa J is the original founder of Sly & the Family Stone; calling upon Sly Stone to become the leader of the first inter-racial, multi-gender major American Band. He has also performed with countless luminaries including Mike Bloomfield, Carlos Santana, Rolling Stone Bill Wymann, Robert Cray, Willie Lomax, Prince, Graham Central Station, and Van Morrison. He is avid in horn arrangements as well as song writing including "One With the Sun" on Santanas "Barbaletta album among others. Through the millenial New Years, he, along with Cynthia Robinson and Larry Graham, played with Prince on his 1999/2000 New Years Pay Per View special "Rave Un2 2000" capping "The Jam of the Year" tour taking them worldwide through Europe and The US to over 50 stops. More Recently he has been seen on the 2006 Grammy Awards with a cast of all stars in their tribute to Sly & The Family Stone.

Frankie Sorci (Keyboard and Vocals)
Frankie started playing piano at the age of four, had his first group at the age of 13 and started playing for monetary gain at the age of 15. Nightclubs were on the agenda at the age of 18 and with the help of a penciled in moustache he was able to gain entrance to most of the clubs in the Sacramento area. 20 was the age to hit the road. Frankie stayed on the road for the next 13 years doing what he loved, playing music. He started in the Nevada Circuit but graduated to playing every corner of the United States. Seattle to Santa Monica, Buffalo to Marco Beach, Toronto to Scottsdale working with groups of new , old and no fame, and it was all fun! When Music gets in your blood it will be there forever, and its good!

Brian Hack on Guitar and Vocals
A Sacramento based musician who spent years playing club venues as a lead guitarist & lead singer, after doing years of road gigs in California hotel chains and the Nevada Casino circuit, Brian and Frank formed their own group "Madison Avenue." Under the BMI affiliation, Brian completed five recording projects with former members. Brian attributes his music career to years of being influenced by Blues Guitarist and friend Mr. Robben Ford.

Russ Martinez (Drums and Percussion)
Russ started playing drums when his dad bought him a set of bongos at age seven after visiting Tijuana. To his parents dread, he never stopped. At fifteen his first band Reign opened the show at the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento for Steppen Wolf and Three Dog Night, he was hooked. He played the club circuit in the Sacramento Valley from age 17 until he finally opened his own night club, The Bitter Creek Tavern in 1977. Bitter Creek was a musicians venue, large stage, lights and a house sound system designed to showcase some of the best bands in Northern California. In 1981 he started playing and touring with the Rutabaga Boogie Band. After he sold the club in 1985 he continued to play with the Rutabaga's until 2006. He's now re-energized and excited to be working with Jerry Martini and our current project.

An “open door” policy welcomes parents of enrolled children to drop in at any time. The center has been custom-designed to fully meet the child care and educational needs of young children and to maximize learning, ensure safety, and support teacher supervision. The infant room is especially designed for very young children to explore their world in a stimulating, healthy, and safe way with quiet spaces for nurturing. Teachers in the infant and toddler programs provide a caring and supportive environment that gently encourages increasing mobility and exploration. The preschool program provides the same nurturing and support, as well as an exciting environment where children can begin to discover the world around them through language, math, science, art, movement, and music.

Audition Casting Call Tips
Casting Director Tips To Get The Job

Place a Secure Order Today

1. Be prepared. Know your craft. Auditions are your way to market your skills and demonstrate your value to the entertainment industry.

2. Be professional and courteous - to everyone- from the security guard at the front gate of the studio to the receptionist to the casting director, and everyone in the audition room. A performer’s personal behavior speaks volumes. Talent is hired on 3 things, your look. talent and your professionalism.

3. Be punctual. Casting takes place in a fast-paced environment and casting directors appreciate consideration of their time and schedules. Don’t waste their time! Be personable and responsive, but don’t talk too much or overstay your welcome.

4. Headshots and resumes. Make sure your headshot looks like you. Airbrush all you want, but you better look like just like your photo when you walk into that room. Always have extra headshots and resumes on hand at every audition.

5. Presentation. Make sure you can be seen and heard. Position yourself so that your face is visible (also, keep long hair out of your face). If you can’t be seen or heard, your performance is lost. Dressing for a role is fine, but don’t wear a costume. Wear something that suggests the character or the profession and let your performance do the rest.

6. Do your homework. Know who you are auditioning for. By researching the director, casting director, producer and show, you may find connections to other people or projects, and learn about the style or genre of a project or its creators.

7. Don’t let anything throw you. You have a right to be there, you were invited there to audition. When other performers enter the waiting room and don’t look like you, think about yourself as “the other way to go.” Often the casting process is about exploring various ways to go with a character, so stay confident and show them how you would do the role. If you’re asked to read another role or make an adjustment, take a moment, and then do your best to do what is asked of you.

8. Be gracious and receptive. Be open to direction. Don’t challenge, make excuses or try to explain yourself. Stay open and easy to direct. Casting directors may want to see if you can take direction.

9. No chit chat. They don’t want to hear about the traffic, or how your day is going. Put yourself in their position. They will meet 15-50 performers auditioning in one day. Would you want to hear 50 excuses on why you were late? Go in. Do your best work. Get out. Leave them wanting more instead of having overdosed on you.

9. Auditions, like scenes, have a beginning, middle, and an end. Walk in confidently, take charge of how you want to work, do your job and get out of the room (always leave them wanting more). Once you have left the audition, let it go. You can have a great audition and still not get the job. They just went another way.

10. Casting directors remember good work. Follow all of these steps and you will be called back by the casting director. It may be for that part or it may happen five years down the line. Each successful audition is like money in the bank. Show yourself in the best light possible by being prepared, professional and positive.

The Rhythm Express at Swabbies on the Sacramento River

The Rhythm Express is playing at Swabbies on the River in Sacramento on Saturday, November 14th at 8:00pm. Details can be had at http://www.TheRhythmExpress.com/.

The Rhythm Express Band is a true variety band that plays a little bit of everything. Whether your event is a wedding, party, mixer, or special occasion, or you operate a commercial establishment, our mission is to provide live music that is certain to entertain you and your guests with hits that span a variety of genres and eras.

Whether you're young or not-so-young, our tune selection provides something for everyone. Our repertoire covers all genres of music from pop to dance to rock 'n' roll to country to soft rock, even sambas, and, if you like, we can even take you on a journey that starts today and includes stops in each decade back through time all the way to the 50's.

We know that every event is special, so we tailor our song list accordingly. For example, if your goal is to get guests movin' and groovin', every song we play will be danceable and we'll provide the juice to get even your worst stick-in-the-mud guest off their butt and onto the dance floor!

We can also perform lower energy material to serve as background entertainment for your dinner party, mixer or happy hour event. And, just as important as the music itself, we know that no one likes a band that's so loud you can't even think, let alone talk. Rest assured that we are professionals who pay special attention to volume. We assess the acoustics of your venue upfront so we know what to do to keep our sound under control at your particular venue. This way, you can have fun without worrying about having your ears blown off!

We know that every band tells you a BS story about how great they are, and many drop a music clip that was recorded in a studio, but when it's show time, they sound nothing like the clip they gave you. So, we're not going to do any of that. If you want to check us out, we'll be at Swabbies on the River in Sacramento on Saturday, November 14th at 8:00pm. Details can be had at http://www.TheRhythmExpress.com/.

Screening - Stingray Sam - a scifi musical western

Sunday, 11/15

Stingray Sam

Movies on a Big Screen at The Guild Theater
2828 35th St, Sacramento
7:30 PM
Admission: $5.00

Cory McAbee's follow-up to the cult favorite, "The American Astronaut!" An all new scifi musical western!!

A serialized film in six episodes. The official synopsis: "A dangerous mission reunites Stingray Sam with his long lost accomplice, The Quasar Kid. Follow these two space-convicts as they earn their freedom in exchange for the rescue of a young girl who is being held captive by the genetically designed figurehead of a very wealthy planet." Of course, that doesn't take into account the pregnant men. Or the corporate mascot rehab program. Or the tiny robot. Or the amazing music by McAbee's band, American Astronaut (formerly, Billy Nayer Show). Starring Cory McAbee as Stingray Sam and featuring David Hyde Pierce (TV's "Frasier) as The Narrator, and McAbee's 5 year old daughter, Willa Vy McAbee.

"'Stingray Sam' leaves one begging for more... think 'The Searchers' meets 'Eraserhead.'" - Variety

"Few films have me chuckling from beginning till end, but this one managed to do it. Well, except when I was laughing. Don't be deceived by its cheap looks or stunning black-and-white-o-vision, Cory McAbee put more creativity and wit in his film than I've seen in ten movies twice its length and a hundred times its budget." - Twitch Film

"[Stingray Sam is] cool. It's committed to its style. It's self-aware without being self-assured. It's a film you want to bring your new love interest too, because it'll show him or her that you feel comfortable having your postmodernism smothered in hilariousness. It'll prove to this new love in your life that not only can the avant-garde disturb filmic
conventions, but also be kind-hearted and sweet, subversive yet caring and generous. This is not, however, some "Ice Storm" or "Squid and the Whale" coming-of-age whinery, this is the wild galactic frickin' West. Bring your gun. Bring your dancin' boots." - quietearth.us
