This position requires current registration as a pharmacy intern with the California State Board of Pharmacy and the following knowledge and abilities: Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of legal restrictions on the activities of pharmacy interns;Federal and State regulations relating to pharmaceutical transactions;medical abbreviations,pharmaceutical terminology and calculations;prescription processing;aseptic technique in the preparation of intravenous admixtures and total parenteral nutrition;safe handling of antineoplastic/chemotherapeutic agents, generic or trade names of medication, extemporaneous prescription compounding of sterile and non-sterile products. Ability: Provide education to patients, staff and physicians in a professional manner. The incumbent is responsible for technical, clerical and transportation duties for the department and is involved with the preparation, distribution, and delivery of medication. The pharmacy intern also performs professional duties as related to The 4 Key Processes for Medication Usage (Prescribing, Preparation and Dispensing, Administering, Monitoring.) All work is performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The pharmacy intern will also demonstrate competency in patient care for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients. Upon graduation from Pharmacy School, the Pharmacy Intern may transition into the Graduate Intern Pharmacist position.
