The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) has clinical responsibilities and is a resource to staff, management, physicians, patients and other health team members in support of programs at the Sutter Roseville Medical Center with an emphasis on quality patient care across the continuum of care for a specified patient population. The major role functions of the CNS are to: (1) Design, implement and evaluate patient specific and population based programs of care; (2) Advance the practice of nursing to achieve quality and cost effective patient outcomes; (3)Lead multidisciplinary groups in designing, implementing, and evaluating innovative evidenced based practice that address system problems or patient care issues; (4) Patient education/staff development; (5) Provide professional level research direction for the development of funded and novel research services and studies; (6) Maintain collaborative physician and community relations; (7) Provide leadership in the development of certification programs in areas of specialty; (8) Participate in data collection, analysis, research in area of specialty.

Education/Licensures and Certifications: A current California RN license and CNS certification required. Certified Nurse Leader (CNL) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) preferred. A Master's degree in a clinical area of nursing is required within 6 mths of hire.

Experience: At least five years current clinical experience in nursing. Demonstrated current knowledge of program development and learning theory for patient/family and employee population served. Strong communication skills and presentation abilities. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, prioritize and organize work, and analyze data. Must possess effective interpersonal and leadership skills.

Knowledge/Skills:

* Demonstrated expertise in the area of assignment with emphasis on nursing process, research principles, organization policies and nursing standards is required.

* Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of physical assessment, the nursing process, and learning principles as related to staff education and patient education.

* Demonstrated knowledge and interpersonal skills necessary to tactfully direct the efforts of diverse health professionals to meet patient needs.

* In-depth comprehension of clinical knowledge/skills in the management of care administered to patients.

* Strong working knowledge regarding program development, implementation, and evaluation is required.

* Demonstrated effectiveness as a change agent and the ability to influence without direct accountability.

* Demonstrated skills in written and oral presentations.

* Working knowledge of applicable State, Federal, Organization and Joint Commission requirements.

Ability to present clinical information to a wide variety of audiences. Knowledge regarding program development, implementation, and evaluation. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written are necessary. Ability to utilize PC based software for word processing, spreadsheet, database and statistics is required.
