Placer ARC is a vibrant non-profit agency "Making the Difference" for individuals with special needs. We are seeking a Substitute Program Aide for our Studio 700 Center for the Arts, which serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Roseville area ages 18 and above.

Under general supervision of the Program Director, the Substitute Program Aide assists clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their development of artistic skills on an individual or small group basis and does related work as required.

The person in this position must possess artistic talents and a great deal of empathy; must exercise careful judgment while giving individualized attention to clients. This person must provide a learning environment on specific creative classes on a small group basis. Must be tactful, warm, supportive, adaptable, flexible, enthusiastic, emotionally mature, patient, and understanding.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Provide Program Director with information to aide in assessment of client's strengths and weaknesses. Be responsible for documentation of client progress and assessing client skills by keeping samples of their work.

2. Attend weekly meeting and training sessions as required.

3. Provide art class activities independent of other classes. Instruction should be geared towards individual students' artistic abilities.

4. Help establish student goals on an individual or small group basis including lesson planning and record keeping.

5. Participate in two art shows each year.

6. Able to lift up to 45 pounds.

7. Take students to public places for learning and entertaining experiences.

8. Assist students in their ability to increase their communication and social development skills.

9. Assist students in preparing lunch and basic classroom cleaning.

10. Maintain equipment used by students in classrooms.

11. Transport consumers in company or personal vehicle (when applicable).

12. Monitor materials in stock; plan and request needed supplies one month ahead.

13. Maintaining confidentiality.

14. Must read, speak, write and comprehend English at a 12th grade level.

15. Performing other duties as required by the Program Director or designated representatives.

16. Working cooperatively with all program staff to ensure a collaborative, collegial work environment.

17. Adhere to the Placer ARC code of ethics adopted March, 2004.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
High school graduate. Work experience in the field of developmental disabilities is preferred. Art experience preferred. Knowledge of motor development; self-care education; communications; social development; first aid; basic psychology; and functional living skills. Valid California driver's license.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 45 pounds. Must be able to physically assist clients on outings and in the center including pushing wheelchairs, assisting people with walkers, pushing, bending and lifting as needed.

Compensation: $13.00/hr, called as needed up to 5 hrs/day, M-F, 9:30-2:30
