Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Dean of Health and Education, the Director of Nursing Academic Program will provide leadership and coordination of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program, the Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide courses, and other Allied Health programs as assigned, including the collaborative partnership programs offered by the college.

The Director of Nursing Academic Program facilitates and promotes student learning within each of the Nursing programs through sound administrative practices and the creation of an environment that promotes academic rigor, fosters instructional innovation, and provides comprehensive support services to students. The program director works closely with faculty, staff, and students as well as health care providers, community partners, and other educational institutions.

Assignment Responsibilities
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
● Providing leadership in the Associate Degree Nursing and Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide programs.
● Ensuring that the nursing programs comply with the requirements of both the Board of Registered Nursing and the California Department of Health Services concerning curriculum, faculty, and students.
● Coordinating the preparation of appropriate licensing and accreditation visits/certification reports.
● Assuming responsibility for faculty and staff evaluation and development.
● Facilitating articulation of Nursing programs with other institutions and developing partnerships and/or grants with external agencies.
● Assuming a leadership and coordinating role in curriculum development and evaluation, including establishment of student learning outcomes and the use of instructional technologies.
● Determining guidelines pertaining to admission, retention, and recruitment of students.
● Coordinating the student licensing and certification application process.
● Serving as a liaison between the Nursing department and multiple internal and external agencies.
● Providing leadership and coordination in the use of instructional facilities in support of the Nursing programs.
● Maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position as Director of Nursing Academic Program.
● Serving as a member of American River College’s Administrative Leadership Council, and as such, assisting in the coordination of campus activities.
● Preparing proposals or requests relating to schedules, staffing, budgets, and textbooks.
● Coordinating and assisting in the recruitment and selection of instructors.
● Evaluating facilities for clinical placement of students.
● Providing leadership in preparing clinical schedules, negotiating for clinical placements in the regular regional planning sessions of all the learning institutions and the clinical facilities.
● Providing leadership in the coordination of student completion ceremonies each semester.
● Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, when necessary.
● Performing other duties as assigned.

Administrative assignment may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off campus work and/or hours.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Have a master’s from an accredited institution, completed by April 12, 2018, which includes course work in Nursing, Education, or Administration Institution.

2. Have a minimum of one year’s experience as an administrator with validated performance of administrative responsibilities consistent with having the authority and responsibility to coordinate and direct all activities in developing, implementing, and managing a nursing program, including its fiscal planning.

3. Have two years’ experience teaching in pre-or post-licensure registered nursing programs.

4. Have one year’s continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience in direct patient care as a registered nurse; OR, the equivalent experience and/or education, as determined by the Board of Registered Nursing.

5. Hold and maintain a California state license as a Registered Nurse by the date of hire.

6. Must hold/obtain and maintain the necessary California licenses, certificates, etc., as needed for external agency(ies) accreditation.

7. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.
