Position Summary

Sacramento Charter High School (Sac High) is seeking educators who can inspire a passion for learning, critical thinking, and the commitment to serving others. Preparing our scholars for college is our top priority and requires disciplined thought and a relentless pursuit of excellence to ensure they are ready for the academic rigor and social complexities that await them. We want to be the counter-narrative for the urban educational experience and seek educators who wish to work collaboratively with others to make this vision a reality. We want teachers who build strong relationships with students, families and the communities we proudly serve. We want teachers who are passionate about their content and can lead scholars of all skills and abilities to transformative academic results.

Responsibilities of a Sac High Teacher Include:

Instructional Planning

* Creates and/or internalizes rigorous lesson plans that are scaffolded, standards-based, culturally relevant, and intended to cultivate the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills of all students

* Differentiates plans for individual students based on their unique learning profiles so that students of all ability levels are engaged and challenged

* Designs formative and summative assessments that are aligned with long-term objectives of the course

* Uses assessment data to modify short-term and long-term plans in order to target areas for improvement

* Designs classroom procedures that provide structure to students and maximize the amount and value of instructional time

* Continuously reflects on teaching practices, management systems and assessment tools and make adjustments as needed for all learners

Instructional Delivery

* Clearly presents academic content so that students comprehend key information and ideas

* Displays a thorough knowledge of curriculum and a passion for the subject matter

* Facilitates, manages, and coordinates student practice so that all students are participating and have the opportunity to gain mastery of the objective through meaningful learning experiences

* Checks for academic understanding frequently and provides feedback in order to ensure student learning

* Communicates high expectations for behavior by teaching, practicing, and reinforcing rules and consequences to maintain the scholarship and environment of the school

* Evaluates and tracks students' performance on assessments so that the teacher and students are aware of students' progress on academic and behavioral goals aligned with rigorous standards

Constant Learning

* Collaborates with content and grade-level teams to promote an environment of critical thinking and academic rigor

* Collaborates with content and grade-level to ensure alignment and consistency of student academic habits, traits, and mindsets.

* Contributes to drive results beyond one's own courses and department

* Consistently reflects on instructional practices through formal and informal methods, and works relentlessly to meet individual professional development goals to increase student achievement

* Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines and honoring the schedules and working styles of other colleagues

* Conducts observations in an effort to learn from other professionals

* Embraces feedback and constructive criticism in the spirit of constant improvement

* Actively participates in professional development activities and trainings designed to enhance knowledge and skills

* Attends and participates in scheduled faculty meetings before or after school, as well as grade level, department, and other required meetings

Academic and Cultural Support

* Assumes the best in all situations and operates from a growth mindset when working with students, families, and colleagues

* Appreciates and celebrates student and faculty diversity

* Maintains the belief that \"all children can learn\" and uphold the five pillars of St. HOPE at all times

* Provides phone numbers to students and parents to use during established evening office hours for homework help and emergencies.

* Attends and participates actively in parent meetings and conferences

* Creates a welcoming environment to instill values of respect and kindness so that students feel comfortable and supported enough to take risks

* Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students based on trust and respect

* Willing to conduct home visits as needed to support students and welcome incoming classes

Fit with SHPS

* Ensures students and families are aware of progress toward goals

* Assume responsibility for an advisory and serves as the mentor, facilitator, and first point of contact for parents/guardians

* Is committed to learning and mastering the software and technological systems used at Sac High

* Operates in alignment with professional standards

* Has excellent customer service

* Operates in alignment with SHPS mission and core beliefs

* Holds self and others to high quality standards and seeks continuous improvement


We are seeking a results-driven classroom leader committed to the St. HOPE Public Schools mission, and who holds high expectations for his or herself and every student.


* Bachelor's Degree

* Belief in and alignment with SHPS's mission

* Criminal background clearance

* Examples of a relentless drive and commitment to eliminate the disparity of educational quality that exists

* Familiary with Google Suite and Applications (Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets, & Slides)

* Necessary EL authorization to teach EL or SDAIE

* Understanding and experience working with the nuances of urban school environments and school culture

* Valid California Single Subject teaching credential in the applicable subject

Highly Desired (but not required):

* Bilingual speaking, reading, and writing abilities (Spanish)

* Experience with Illuminate as Student Information System

* Coaching or club sponorship experience

* National Board Certification


St. HOPE Public Schools offer a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full time exempt position and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
