Remember hearing earlier this month about a punk-rock band that filmed a porno on Westboro Baptist Church’s front lawn?

And that it went viral online with millions of views, and pissed off gay-hating WBC leader Fred Phelps something fierce?

Well, turns out the group was none other than Sacramento’s very own Get Shot!

I first wrote about the punk troupe back in 2012, just days after they were banned by Facebook for posting sleazy pictures.

You see, that’s their game: Rock ’n’ roll meets sexual freedom. Or punk porn, have you. (Read my original review of the band’s live show, here.) 

Anyway, this morning I called Get Shot! frontman J.P. Hunter to get the scoop on the Westboro incident.

He explained that the band first visited the church this past May, during a tour of “red state” cities like Salt Lake City and Topeka. Get Shot! scouted out Westboro, then made plans to return in September.

“We were actually trying to orchestrate a lesbian orgy on the Westboro Baptist’s lawn,” Hunter said. They had their bassist, Laura Lush, plus a porn star and two other women ready to perform.

Long story short, the orgy concept fell apart, but bassist Lush was insistent open going forward with the adult video.

“‘We’re not leaving Topeka empty handed,’” she said, according to Hunter.

No pun intended: On September 30, he drove her to the Church lawn and videotaped her masturbating in front of a sign that reads “Fag marriage dooms nation.”

“The mailman was laughing his ass off the whole time she was doing it,” Hunter recalls.

Then, they hopped in the car and sped seven-and-a-half hours to the Colorado border. Days later, the band posted the video online.

And, naturally, it blew up.

The Church used the incident to, of course, justify its brand of hate:

“We’ve had over 1.7 million views in the past week and a half,” Hunter says. The New York Times and the BBC did features on the group.

““We haven’t had anyone locally call us yet, but honestly Sacramento has always ignored us,” Hunter says.
