This position is responsible for investigating, evaluating and the resolution of moderate to the largest and/or most complex claims within the company. The position is also responsible for the appropriate selection and effective management of outside vendors including controlling expenses. Must also be self motivated, have strong planning and organizational skills, and require little supervision. Other functions may include providing day:to:day mentoring, technical guidance, and training to other claim handlers and filling in for supervisors as neededAbility to effectively and accurately analyze complex coverage issues and prepare coverage letters.Using knowledge and best claim practices, investigate, evaluate, reserve, and settle claims within scope of authority, workload guidelines, time and service standards.Responsible for claims in multiple jurisdictions. Requires understanding of different jurisdictional laws/issues.Recognize problematic claims files and develop appropriate claims strategy to ensure proper and effective resolution with an eye towards litigation avoidance. Aggressively manage the performance of and provide direction to adjusting companies for losses requiring assistance by a field adjuster/independent to ensure compliance with company rules, policies, procedures and policy language. Timely and accurately set loss reserves and effectively manage loss adjustment expensePrepare and/or accurately review construction estimates.Identifies and effectively investigates for possible fraud, contribution, recovery, and case management opportunities to reduce total claim costProvide timely quality claim service that meets the needs of customers and business partners.Accurately and appropriately document and diary files as required by the best practices, the claim manager and regulatory agenciesDemonstrate effective customer service skills (consistently makes customer issues a high priority; consistently models and articulates a strong customer:focus ethic).As necessary, coordinate activities with insuredA?s and adjusting companies to ensure timely and appropriate resolution of claims.Provide A?back upA? for Claim Manager or Supervisor as neededActively participate in CAT planning, management and resolution of CAT claimsStay abreast of and demonstrate superior technical knowledge in all aspects of claim handling including coverage, industry trends as well as legal and legislative climatesDemonstrate proficiency using all claim systems including estimating systems, as well as Windows, and related software.Provides day:to:day mentoring/technical guidance, education and training to other claim handlers on an as needed basis. Additional Responsibilities: Performs other related duties as required and assists with special projects.Education, training, and experience: College graduate and/or equivalent combination of High School Diploma/GED, training and work experience.5:10 years of previous claim handling experience required.Must be able to obtain state adjuster licensing in applicable states within 120 days of employment and maintain licensing requirements as a requirement of continued employment.
